ATVs Cause Extensive Damage to D-Y High School Football Field

On Friday, May 4, 2007 at 12:15 AM—the Yarmouth Police Department responded to a report of two All Terrain Vehicles on the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School Football field causing damage.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Andrew O’Malley—Melissa Alden—Olivier Naas—and David Schneeweis responded to the area and spotted one of the two vehicles parked in the tennis court area parking lot on Regional Avenue with its engine and lights off.

As Patrol Officer O’Malley and his partner Alden approached—the suspect immediately started the vehicle and fled towards Station Avenue. Patrol Officer O’Malley activated his cruiser emergency lights and siren and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and continued to flee northbound on Station Avenue at a speed of 40-55 miles per hour. The officers lost sight of the vehicle, as it turned east on to the former railroad tracks adjacent to White Path. Despite a saturation patrol of the area—the suspects or ATV’s were not found.

The football field and the athletic track suffered moderate to extensive damage.

The Yarmouth Police Department and the Dennis Yarmouth Regional School District is seeking the public’s assistance in trying to solve this crime. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Yarmouth Police Department at 508-775-0445.
